Athlete Health Centre

The services provided at our department:
Preventative Sports Health Services

Preventative health services are the first step in achieving good health and are very important. Athlete health examinations are generally conducted when the athletes apply for a license and they are seeking approval that they are fit to do sport. It covers a wide range of areas and changes depending on the sport. License check-ups are important and must not be neglected because they prevent unwanted situations through health controls conducted on athletes before they begin their sport or via regular medical examinations to athletes who are doing sports.

Athlete health education is an effective preventative health service and must be continually provided. Athletes are trained in the factors that cause injuries, the precautions that must be taken in order to prevent injuries, sports-related risks, first aid and similar topics. It is known that athletes who have this training experience less sports injuries and can cope easier when they do have a sports injury. Physical compatibility tests and performance tests help determine the athlete’s strength, durability, flexibility, speed and body type. These tests are important for both protecting and developing the athlete’s performance, identifying their talents and directing them to the type sport suitable for them and are also important in protecting against possible injuries. It provides a suitable basis by determining the weak points of the athlete’s performance and developing them accordingly.

Diagnosis and Treatment of Diseases/Injuries
Sports injuries generally occur in the musculoskeletal system and are generally not life threatening. All diseases faced by the general population can also occur in athletes. The athlete’s problem is determined and the majority of issues can be treated in our department; however, if needed, other departments are consulted and the wide-ranging diagnosis and treatment resources of Near East University Hospital Yeniboğaziçi are used.

Sports Rehabilitation Services
The physiology of athletes is different to normal individuals. Therefore, the rehabilitation period must be planned by taking these differences into account. The severity of the sports injury is determined by how long the athlete will not be able to participate in the sport. The longer this period is, the greater the performance loss of the athlete will be. Sports Rehabilitation is the last step in the recover process before the athlete can return to their activities. The physical and psychological losses that the athlete has experienced due to the injury are treated at this stage. The lacking or problematic factors are resolved or treated. When all the factors reach the required level, the athlete is allowed back onto the field. Incorrect or insufficient sports rehabilitation can lengthen the period of time the athlete takes to return to action and can also cause chronic sports injuries. After the individual has completed the first step of rehabilitation, they are given an individual program specifically tailored for their recovery. This program not only helps athletes return to their sports activities, but is also designed to minimise the risk of the injury reoccurring.

Exercise for Chronic Diseases
The reduced physical activity in modern society is accompanied by the increase in many chronic diseases. Well-planned regular exercise prescriptions are an important factor in the treatment of various diseases and are continually becoming increasingly common worldwide. Exercise prescriptions not only have a positive impact on lifespan but also on the quality of life. People suffering from obesity, diabetes, hypertension, depression and many other diseases that are significant health problems in modern society can be given exercise prescriptions to help their treatment and have a positive effect on the progress of the disease. Exercise not only plays an important role in treating the disease, but also in prevention. In light of this information, patients who apply to our department will be given the necessary consultation and personalised exercise plans.
